My name is Brian Hart; I’m from St. Louis, MI. I came to Rightlook to take the 3 day auto detailing training class and worked with Ruben, he’s an excellent trainer. I decided to train with Rightlook because they seem to be the most professional outfit and also I would learn some additional add-on services. I took the 3 day training class just because it offered a little bit of everything. It had detailing as well as windshield repair and headlight restoration. I want to get into the detailing business but I also wanted to have some additional services to offer as well.
My trainer was Ruben, he was a great guy and I learned a lot from him. We’re constantly learning, you get very well educated on the chemicals and everything that you’re using as well as equipment and tools you need to use in the detailing business. The information was great. Honestly, it was almost overwhelming the first day with all the information we learned but as we got back into the shop and started applying what we learned in real life situation, it started to all make sense and sink in.
We detailed a car, it was basically me and one other gentleman, and we each worked on one half of the car. We would do one step and then stop and then talk about it and go over everything so it wasn’t too fast. You’re definitely seeing what you’re doing wrong and what you can improve on to do the job right. What I really wanted to learn how to do when I came here was using a polisher. We learned how to do that and I felt that was the most interesting part because I always wanted to do that and do it the right way without damaging the paint.
The headlight restoration took me a little while to get use to it but after I got familiar with the tools it seemed to be pretty easy to get done. Windshield repair, once again we went over the tools and everything we needed. Ruben demonstrated the repair on a windshield and then after I tackled one on a windshield we actually did repairs on a real vehicle and just used what I learned on the windshield and applied it to a real life situation and it all worked great.
I really liked all the hands-on training, I’m kind of a hands-on learner so that was really helpful for me being able to do a classroom setting and then jump immediately into the shop and learn what we did in the classroom and apply it to a real life situation. I feel very confident that I’ll be able to go home and start detailing cars immediately. They make sure that you know what you’re doing so you can apply it back home when you go back home.
